First, these two closeups of the leaves. Hope you can see how the colour varies slightly between the upper and lower halves. I used different combinations of the same threads, hoping to suggest the way light reflects differently from leaves.
. . . and here’s the finished block! (well, I still have to trim it to 13 cm on each side). I hope to mail it tomorrow so it will arrive in Belgium before the deadline (31 Jan).
I did all this freehand, making it up as I went along; it has a more loose look, which I like, rather than the polished work that I hope to do again one day. I like the formal look, too, but was not aiming for that here.
The most fun part, I think, was seeing the picture ’emerge’, as I had a vague idea of what I would do, and this was not very close…
